I am Jorma Paavonen, a Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Helsinki.
My ultimate goal has always been to act as a role model for the next generation as a clinical scientist with high performance teaching, clinical research, and bedside clinical service.
Major activities up to my retirement in 2015 included undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and clinical work, both as an obstetrician and as a consultant gynaecologist.
My current research programs focus on HPV vaccination efficacy trials, long term effectiveness of HPV vaccination, amniotic fluid biomarkers in the diagnosis of subclinical chorioamnionitis, disease burden of placental abruption, impact of C. trachomatis in tubal factor infertility and unexplained infertility, management of vulvar pain syndrome and others.
Other activities include: 8 grandchildren, 2 Shetland sheepdogs, running, golfing, hunting, boating.

Vulvar diseases, specifically vulvodynia, vulvar dermatoses such as lichen sclerosus and lichen planus, chronic and recurrent vaginal infections such as yeast, bacterial vaginosis, DIV.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections, diagnosis and treatment of cervical, vulvar or vaginal precancer. Colposcopy and colposcopically directed biopsies. Laser treatment. LOOP conisation. Impact of HPV vaccination.
